CRO Software Solutions was founded in 2013 out of a real-world necessity identified by Dan Klufas, one of the founding partners, at his metal recycling facility. After numerous attempts to utilize existing software to manage and link drivers, containers, dispatchers, and managers into one cohesive solution, Dan realized that no such product existed. Recognizing the need for a more effective tool, Dan collaborated with the other founding partner, Shane Duty, whose expertise in software development was instrumental in creating a solution from the ground up. They approached the problem by reverse-engineering the software, starting from the perspectives of the drivers and dispatchers—the people who would use it daily. Their guiding principle was simple: "Create a software for the people who actually use it every day—the drivers and the dispatchers. Make the software do all the work, not the user, and deliver that data to management exactly how they need it."

Early adopters of the software were colleagues of Dan in the metal recycling industry, who provided valuable beta testing feedback that shaped the software’s development. The adoption of CRO was swift in the metal recycling sector, driven by the lack of effective alternatives and CRO’s unwavering commitment to listening to client challenges and quickly adapting the program to solve real-world problems.

Building on the success in recycling, clients who operated in related industries, such as garbage collection, began to request additional features to address their unique challenges. CRO responded by expanding the software’s capabilities to cover these needs. As clients’ business operations grew to include liquid waste management, such as portable toilets and septic services, CRO again rose to the occasion. By listening to client needs, the software evolved into a comprehensive ERP solution, capable of solving problems across various industries, including liquid waste, roll-off dumpster services, solid waste, and recycling. Today, CRO Software Solutions serves over 700 clients ranging from small, single-truck operators to multinational corporations with over 40 locations.
